The Tupelo Performing Arts Academy is a nonprofit organization project of CREATE, INC. Founded by Lee Farrar Bailey, the TPAA is focused on the development of artists of all ages.
We instruct students in
Acting, Brass Instruments, Directing, Guitar, Theatrical Make-up, Music Composition, Musical Theatre Workshops, Opera Workshops & classes, Piano, Playwriting, Poetry, Recording Studio Engineering, Screenwriting, Set Design, Strings, Voice (all genres) & Woodwinds.
TPAA is committed to excellence in the arts for all styles and genres. We believe that the arts incorporate not only classical but contemporary music and dramatics of all styles. If a student wishes to pursue a career or interest in opera, musical theatre, film, rock, country, Christian, jazz, blues, etc., we will give them the skills and encouragement to follow their dreams and interests. Foundational principles and techniques are taught; then students are instructed on how to apply them to the various fields of choice.
Performance opportunities are available throughout the year in a number of ways. Students of all ages will have recitals in their disciplines. Other opportunities include: ensembles of acting, choral, instrumental and directorial and technical crews. Auditions for productions of the Tupelo Southern Repertory Theatre Company will be made available as well. TPAA will provide consultation and counseling for college admissions as well as introductions and preparations for professional performing arts companies throughout the nation.

A native of Tupelo and a Tupelo High School graduate, Lee has been involved in professional opera, musical theatre, film and contemporary music as well asserving as minister of music. Son of Tupelo native and international opera star, Dennis Bailey, Lee was born into the performing world and made his operatic debut with the Seattle Opera Co. at the age of 7 years old.
At Tupelo High, Lee was involved in the Varsity Chorus, Men’s Glee, Madrigals, Male Quartet & Wave Connection in addition to the lead roles in numerous musicals and other productions. After high school, Lee became a contracted singer with the New Orleans Opera, the youngest seasonal union artist with the company, where he performed for 7 seasons.
Since then, Lee has toured the country, performing with professional theatre, opera, television and film companies. Lee has toured in support of his three CDs as a recording artist: "My Heart’s Passion Volume I & II" (Double sacred CD), "After the Show" (Broadway CD) & "Noël" (Christmas CD).
Lee’s dream to establish this academy was the dream of his late father’s as well. He believes that Tupelo and North Mississippi are poised for the next level of performing arts from a professional standpoint. The foundation for that is rock-solid instruction for the amazing talents in this demographic.
